How is MTN Different?

Choosing a VSAT communications provider can be a daunting experience. In the past five years many new companies have moved into the VSAT business. A number of them have little experience and are selling satellite communications as a sideline and not as their core business. MTN has been in the VSAT satellite communications business for more than 30 years, and it is our core business.

In addition to being a pioneer in satellite communications, MTN is a leader in delivering forward-thinking differentiators for our customers.

True Global Network

Designed specifically for the maritime industry, MTN operates the largest global Automatic Beam Switching Ku-Band network and expansive C-Band satellite coverage for reliable and consistent VSAT communications, keeping customers connected anywhere in the world. Plus, additional beams give us bandwidth flexibility that others might not offer.

Redundant Terrestrial Backbone

MTN’sworldwide footprints are supported by a secure network infrastructure that consists of 10 teleport gateways and 14 global Points of Presence (POP) strategically located across the globe. Each of these facilities is interconnected through an extensive redundant private terrestrial network backbone, delivering numerous connectivity options for our cruise partners’ critical communication requirements.

Unparalleled Customer & Technical Support

MTN's 24x7 state-of-the-art Network Operations Center (NOC) monitors satellite communications around the clock and is able to foresee problems and proactively correct them, delivering minimal downtime to customers around the globe. This NOC is owned and operated by MTN, with no outsourcing, and you will always get a knowledgeable, MTN-trained and certified professional on the line willing and able to help.

Our People

Our customers know that MTN has the best technical service people in the industry. From our Network Operations Center for first-level support to network engineers and our field support technicians, customer service is our goal. This results in fewer technical visits, which equates to better uptime and cost savings. Our staff is experienced and well trained when first hired; they received continuous training with a curriculum based on levels of experience, all resulting in a knowledgeable and customer-centric support staff.

Training

Our training curriculum and facility are well respected and recognized in the industry. MTN Satellite Communications trains onboard staff when equipment is installed. MTN also has a full-time training facility in Miramar, Florida, and provides video training segments that are available online to remote customers.

The MTN’s Technical Services department has also designed and created a VSAT 101 and operators training on the principles of satellite communications specific to maritime VSAT Technology.  MTN staff instructors supply students with the necessary information, manuals, software and programs to understand, operate and potentially service an MTN stabilized antenna system.  The courses cover material including basic satellite concepts and theory from set-up to configuration to troubleshooting to ensure overall performance of the software and equipment installed on vessels.

Courses are offered in abbreviated 1-day and 3-day formats, to more in depth training that is completed in 5 days. Upon completion of this course, users are able to efficiently manage their VSAT links and will receive an official MTN certification based on course successfully completed.

Testing Facility

Our in-house testing facility allows our customers to come to Miramar to test new software or applications live on our network, but from a controlled environment, prior to installing the service on a vessel.
